Every year, it’s getting more and more difficult to obtain a bib for the mythical Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB). The draw has just been held, and we know that many of you have been left out and you will have to wait at least a year to participate. But the work does not end today, you have to continue training for the great challenge that the UTMB represents… It is time to look for an alternative that allows you to accumulate kilometers of mountain without excessive harm to your legs. The different modalities of the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc are long-distance races, with continuous efforts that can go between 10 and 48 hours depending on the level and distance of the race. In any case, to enjoy the whole event, surely you were thinking of spending a few days in the area, to enjoy the atmosphere and visit the magnificent Chamonix valley and the Mont Blanc massif, whether from France, Italy or Switzerland.
Well, the Pyrenees Stage Run (PSR) is a race with different characteristics from the UTMB, but it is perfectly suited to what you are looking for at the moment:
- The Pyrenees Stage Run 2022 will take place from September 4 to 10, just one week after the UTMB, therefore around the same dates that you planned to go to Chamonix.
- The starting line is just 2 hours by train from Barcelona airport.
- Everything organized? Yes, we offer two registration options, one without accommodation, and another with hotel accommodation included; Both options include dinner: Services.
- The Pyrenees Stage Run is a 7 day trail-running stage race in the Pyrenees, a wild and mountainous range next to Barcelona. The route runs by the GR11 route with two stages in Andorra and going through the most beautiful landscapes of the Pyrenees. The stages have distances between 20 and 45km. The recovery between stages means that the body does not experience as much harm as it does in an “Ultra”, therefore it is the best training when considering participating in the UTMB next year!
Exactly, the PSR is the best alternative to the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc! Still not convinced? Here are some of the testimonials that have participated in previous editions and we also recommend you to take a look at Ian Corless’s opinion on the race. He took part in 2021, and was able to live and explain the experience in detail: Ian Corless, surprised and fascinated by the Pyrenees Stage Run
